2005 MATIMBA–WITKOP 400kV Transmission Line

Completed under the direction of main contractor Transdeco, in partnership with sub-contractor Mkhulu Electro Distribution Projects CC, the project involved the successful erection of 69 towers, comprising the 518, 524, and 528 series.

2006 APOLLO 400kV Substation (Bay Changes)

Mkhulu Electro Distribution Projects CC was the principal contractor for a project in 2006. The project’s scope of work included changing two bays, which necessitated the installation of specific equipment.

2006 HENDRINA VULCAN #2 400kV TRANSMISSION LINE DEVIATIONS

2006 ATLAS SNOWDON 1 AND 2 TO ATLAS-SCAFEL AND EVEREST 275kV TRANSMISSION LINE

In 2006, Atlas Snowdon 1 and 2 lines were upgraded to Atlas-Scafel and Everest 275 kV lines. Eskom commissioned the project, with Mkhulu Electro Distribution Projects CC as the main contractor.

2007 MERCURY PERSEUS 765kV TRANSMISSION LINE

The Mercury Perseus 765 kV Transmission Line project began in 2007, with Eskom PDP serving as the client, Viscas Corporation serving as the principal contractor, and Mkhulu Electro Distribution CC serving as the subcontractor.

2009-2010 HYDRA GAMMA 1 & 2 765kV TRANSMISSION LINE

The Hydra Gamma 1 and 2 765 kV transmission line project was completed in 2009–2010. Eskom commissioned the project. Viscas Corporation was the principal contractor. Mkhulu Electro Distribution Projects CC was the subcontractor.

2009-2010 HYDRA PERSEUS B 765kV TRANSMISSION LINE

This 765 kV transmission line project was completed between 2009 and 2010 for Eskom PDP. It aimed to boost the region’s electrical transmission capacity.

2011-2012 FERRUM DEVIATION 275kV TRANSMISSION LINE

Completed in 2011–2012, this project upgraded the Ferrum substation by deviating existing 275kV lines. The upgrade transformed it from a 275/132kV to a 400/275/132kV substation.

2011–2013 FERRUM–MOOKODI 400kV TRANSMISSION LINE A AND B

This 400 kV transmission line project was completed between 2011 and 2013 for Eskom PDP. Mkhulu Electro Distribution Projects (Pty) Ltd served as the prime contractor.

APRIL 2014 APOLLO–CAHORA BASSA 533kV TRANSMISSION LINE

In April 2014, Hydro de Cahora Bassa completed the 533 kV Apollo–Cahora Bassa project. Transmission Grid Consulting was the prime contractor, with Mkhulu Electro Distribution Projects (Pty) Ltd. as the subcontractor.

MARCH 2014 – JULY 2015 DUVHA–KUSILE 400kV TRANSMISSION LINE DEVIATION

This 400 kV transmission line deviation project was completed for Eskom PDP between March 2014 and July 2015.

MAY 2015 DUVHA–KENDAL 400kV TRANSMISSION LINE LIFT

Completed in May 2015 for Eskom PDP, this project involved lifting the 400 kV line to increase clearance above the new Kusile Road. Mkhulu Electro Distribution Projects (Pty) Ltd. led the work.

MAY 2014 – AUGUST 2015 KAPPA–STERREKUS 765kV TRANSMISSION LINE

This 765 kV transmission line project for Eskom PDP was completed between May 2014 and August 2015. Mkhulu Electro Distribution Projects (Pty) Ltd served as the prime contractor.

MAY 2016 – MARCH 2018 EVEREST–MERAPI 400kV TRANSMISSION LINE

This 400 kV transmission line project for Eskom PDP was executed between May 2016 and March 2018. Mkhulu Electro Distribution Projects (Pty) Ltd was the prime contractor.

SEPTEMBER 2016 – SEPTEMBER 2018 MASA NGWEDI 765kV & 400kV TRANSMISSION LINE 1 & 2 (SECTION E)

Construction of 37.5 km (400kV) and 37.4 km (765kV) lines with 90 towers (400kV) and 87 towers (765kV) near Mogwase, North West. Parallel 765kV and 400kV lines were built.

FEBRUARY 2017 – OCTOBER 2018 ANKERLIG–STERREKUS 400kV

Eskom PDP commissioned the 400kV Double Circuit Transmission Line project between Feb 2017 and Oct 2018. Mkhulu Electro Distribution Projects (Pty) Ltd was the main contractor.

MARCH 2019 – JUNE 2019 MEDUPI LOOP IN & OUT 400kV LINES

The Medupi Loop In & Out 400kV Lines project was carried out between March and June 2019 for Eskom PDP. Mkhulu EDP was the main contractor.

APRIL 2019 APOLLO–CAHORA BASA EMERGENCY TOWER RECOVERY

The Apollo-Cahora Basa Emergency Tower Recovery project began in April 2019. Eskom PDP was the client, with Mkhulu EDP as the principal contractor.

AUGUST 2019 – JUNE 2020 ALPHA BETA 1&2 & HYDRA-PERSEUS 1 765kV TRANSMISSION LINES

Mkhulu-EDP’s Anchor Refurbishment Project for Eskom improved the structural integrity of 50 towers on the Alpha-Beta 1&2 and Hydra-Perseus 1 765 kV lines by repairing anchors.

SEPTEMBER 2019 – 2021 MATSOKU TO POLIHALI 132kV TRANSMISSION LINE AND UPGRADE

The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority commissioned the Matsoku to Polihali 132kV Transmission Line project, carried out by Mkhulu EDP from September 2019 to 2021.

DECEMBER 2019 – MARCH 2021 MEDUPI BORUTHO 400kV TRANSMISSION LINE (SECTION A)

This project involved building a 25 km segment of the Medupi Borutho 400 kV Transmission Line connecting Medupi Power Station to Borutho Substation.

SEPTEMBER 2019 – MARCH 2020 HYDRA PERSEUS 1 765kV LINE (EMERGENCY WORK)

In collaboration with Eskom PDP, Mkhulu EDP led the Alpha Beta 2 emergency recovery and construction of the 400 kV bypass.

AUGUST 2020 – OCTOBER 2021 KUSILE LULAMISA 400kV TRANSMISSION LINE (SECTION A)

Mkhulu EDP built the 77 km Section A of the 400 kV Kusile Lulamisa Transmission Line in partnership with Eskom PDP.

MARCH – NOVEMBER 2021 MASA NGWEDI 1&2 765kV TRANSMISSION LINE (SECTION C)

The Mkhulu IMAB Consortium led the construction of about 40 km of 765 kV transmission line under Eskom PDP.

MARCH – NOVEMBER 2021 MASA NGWEDI 1&2 765kV TRANSMISSION LINE (SECTION D)

Eskom PDP and Mkhulu EDP collaborated on building about 40 km of 765 kV transmission line.

CONSTRUCTION OF KAPPA OYA 132kV LINE

Construction of 33 km of 132kV line from Kappa Substation to Oya. Includes surveying, pegging, foundations, assembly, and erection.

CONSTRUCTION OF OYA ELECTRICAL BALANCE OF WORKS – SUBSTATIONS

Construction of Oya Collector Stations, Hybrid Station, and Kappa Feeder Bay, including civil works.

ARIES UPINGTON 400kV TRANSMISSION LINE SECTION B

Construction of 72 km of 400kV line from Aries Substation to Upington Substation. Includes surveying, pegging, foundations, and assembly.

UPINGTON 400kV SUBSTATION

All civil and electrical works, including commissioning. Procurement and construct contract.

AQUILA MTS LOOP IN & LOOP OUT & OPGW WORKS

All civil and electrical works, including commissioning, for the new MTS (Aquila) Loop In and Out connection to the existing Hydra-Poseidon 400kV line.
